Starting from today, December 1, 2023, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has implemented new regulations for SIM cards. Customers must update their data when purchasing a new SIM card, have their SIM card dealers verified, and bulk connections are no longer allowed. The government aims to combat online financial fraud. Additionally, new KYC rules require customers to undergo digital Know Your Customer process and provide necessary demographic details. SIM replacement also requires completion of the KYC process and a 24-hour bar on SMS facilities. Bulk SIM card purchases are discontinued, and dealers must undergo mandatory verification.
